can you run nslookup from the dns server and get successfull queries against the DNS db. You may have broken the DNS server. It is highly not reccommended to install sql onto an AD DC. Try adding some entries into your hosts file to do the mapping for you, then configure tcp/ip to look at the hosts file also. -TOny
p.s. you might try restarting dns and see if it creates any errors in the event logs, and/or uninstall it and reinstall the dns service. -----Original Message----- From: Chris [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 9:07 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: Broken DNS? When you have a couple minutes, I'm having a problem at home... Need a little expertise. This is a very small test environment I have running at home (22yo college kid). The box in question in Win2k Server, SP2. So at 8:00 last nite, internet was fine on all computers in the house. At 8:30 i installed Sql Server 2k SP2 on the machine that does the routing (since I'm poor and can't afford a lab, this one box does Routing and Remote Access, SQL, DNS, and is a DC). After installing SQL, internet problems started: The DC (which is connected directly to the net) can view webpages fine and everything is normal. Out on the network, however, bringing up a webpage is very slow and if I click a link (eg, click to a story on CNN) the page will not come up. Just sits. Some pages are more cooperative, but that's the exception rather than the rule. I get a couple errors in the System Log on the DC. A search of Google, eventid.net, and MS didn't give me any real help. Maybe this is something you've seen before? Any ideas? It's aggravating, cuz everything was fine just before I installed SQL (I updated MDAC, then installed SQL).... Thanks for any input you can offer (especially for hints on how to fix DNS if that is my problem). ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to %%email.unsub%% ------ You are subscribed as [email protected] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
