Gig to the desktop or servers from the net would be awesome... Then my backup of the internet would only take 8 hours, instead of the 3 days it takes now [;-)

You can use any root domain you want. If you want others on the Internet to reach your domain (for an external emailor web server) the domain has to be legitimate, but internally, anything goes.
