You very likely have other problems then the switch to native mode, as Marv
points out.

We moved to native mode with 3000 NT clients without a problem.

Do you still have WINS on the network? I know that WINS is needed to
maintain communication with down level clients. This is just a thought.

This cut is from Technet Chapter 2 Domain Upgrade:

Even when a domain has only Windows 2000 domain controllers and has been
switched to native mode, clients and servers running earlier versions of
Windows NT, and clients running Windows 9x, can exist within the domain.

This is not true... You can go native as long as all your DCs are 2000

My understanding is that Native mode is for a pure win2k network. That is
why your NT4 workstations are not connecting. Upgrade your workstations to
win2k or restore server to mixed mode.

Does it work if you drop the workstation into a workgroup - delete the
computer account from the domain using AD users and computers - re-add the
workstation ?

I have the folowing message when I try to log on:
"The system can not log you on to this domain because the systems computers
account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is
incorrect."

I remove the computer from domain then rejoined the domain and the
operations was successful. And I still have the same error.
