I also had a Toshiba laptop that the mouse would freak out, when it first time it happened I thought it was over heating because one of the fans was making a lot of racket and stopped. After replacing the fan and making sure that the CPU had good contact with the heat sink it still would freak out. I never did find out what it was. I have a new Dell Inspiron now and so far no freak-out.
