It's not a technology limitation, it's an OS limitation: Microsoft does not support arbitrated access by more than one server to a single logical drive. So while you could make a logical drive on the RA4100 visible to both systems (actually, if you connected an RA4100 to the SAN you'd have to work to prevent the logical drive from being seen by all systems - by default all systems would try to mount it), Windows would quickly trash it as both systems would at some point try to make conflicting updates to critical NTFS data structures, corrupting the drive beyond repair.
So if UNC virtual directories aren't an option, file replication is about the only other choice. -Michael -----Original Message----- From: Paul Reynolds [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 10:32 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: Using SAN technology I have a client requiring multiple host access to a logical drive defined on a Compaq RA4100 and my problem is allowing multiple host access to the logical drive once isit is formatted by Windows. I have tried the Tivoli SanErgy product but essentially I need to have two servers view the drive as a local drive so I can use multiple IIS servers to access the same web content. The solution seems to be out of the realms of possibility at the moment as I an not allowed to use UNC share names to access the web content for various reasons and thus the home directory of each web site must refer to a drive letter and folder. I do not think I can get this to work under current technology but has anyone else come across such a problem?
