So far as I know this is not possible with MS Operating Systems. This is
not a limitation of SAN technology, but a limitation in Windows in that it
must have exclusive use of the disk. I am not familiar with Compaq SAN's,
but you should be able to mirror to a second disk accomplishing what you are
trying to do.

Subject: Using SAN technology

I have a client requiring multiple host access to a logical drive defined on
a Compaq RA4100 and my problem is allowing multiple host access to the
logical drive once isit is formatted by Windows. I have tried the Tivoli
SanErgy product but essentially I need to have two servers view the drive as
a local drive so I can use multiple IIS servers to access the same web
content. The solution seems to be out of the realms of possibility at the
moment as I an not allowed to use UNC share names to access the web content
for various reasons and thus the home directory of each web site must refer
to a drive letter and folder. I do not think I can get this to work under
current technology but has anyone else come across such a problem? Thanks in
advance from Paul Reynolds
