This wouldn't hold water in the case of a brand new computer. Because nobody
has modified the local administrators group.

Copying an existing user to a new user from user manager for domains does
not add the new user to the local admins group in terms of user rights.
Local user rights are maintained on the local SAM of each separate
workstation. They are not maintained on your PDC or BDC. Check the local
groups on the computer and see who is a member of the local admins group.
And if your domain admins are not a member of the local admins, it should
be. Do me a favor and just check.

But if I copy an existing user a new user - new user cannot add printers -
the existing user can, no changes made to the groups they belong to,

Loading and unloading device drivers requires local administrator
priveleges. I bet if you checked the local user rights assignments of your
existing users, you would see that their current account is a member of the
local admins group. There may (and probably is) a dirty workaround
involving editing the registry and setting perms on certain folders, but
IMHO, if your users need to install printers locally, and they are still
using NT 4.0 ws, this is what needs to be done.

Subject: 3rd try - New user settings

I know this is not a Windows 2k issue, but you guys have help me before and
know one of you wizards holds the answer..........

I have a Windows NT Server based network 1- PDC 1- BDC - the workstations
are Windows NT 4.0 I have an issue that I was hoping for some help. When I
add a new user to my domain, making sure they are in the correct groups -
they are unable to add printers to any workstation they log in to. They get
an error claiming they do not have sufficient rights to access this machine
because a driver needs to be loaded locally. In addition we loaded I.E. 6.0
on all stations that contains a proxy server setting to our proxy server.
When these new users login the settings are not there. All existing users
can add printers and maintain settings (about 600 users), If I copy an
existing user to a new user - they new user can not add printers or hold
settings. I have 1 existing user that is experiencing this as well. Any help
or suggestions would be welcome, I have to add 300 new users soon, and
printing and Internet access would be useful;-).

Thank you,
