I have a recently "inherited" a custom application. To make a
painfully long story short, The application has a server name imbedded
in the code (\\servername1\sharename). I know this is a really bad
setup, but, at this point I wont be able to adjust the code for a few
days. (another very long story, but I wont be able to change the code) I
have set up the software to use my present server that has a different
name then the one that is imbedded in the code. I need to trick my
machines into believing that my present server name is the server name
that is imbedded in the code.
I tried setting up a static wins entry and a DNS entry for the imbedded
name to point to the IP address of the server that I have, and pinging
by name works fine, but I need to be able to map a drive for the
software to work. When I ping \\servername1 I get the proper IP address
(IP of servername2) but If I try to map \\servername1\sharefile, I get
"the network path was not found" I need to trick the commuters into
thinking servername1 is servername2. Any suggestions?
I know its probably something I'm overlooking so please post anything
you can think of.
Thanks
