I'm trying to promote a member server to a domain server. Running dcpromo, I answer the prompts appropriately, and then I get an error message:
Unable to modify the properties for machine account WHATEVER$ Access denied I've entered the (only) administrator password. I've tried making the administrator a member of just about every group. I've tried removing the server from the domain, and then re-joining. I've sucessfully created a new domain on this server as a child domain of my original domain - and then removed that child domain.
