If you are trying to promote a member server of a 2k domain, you have to be logged on as the domain admin account. The domain admin account will have the proper authority.
Are you logged on as a local admin or domain admin? -----Original Message----- From: Daniel L. Running dcpromo, I answer the prompts appropriately, and then I get an error message: Unable to modify the properties for machine account WHATEVER$ Access denied I've entered the (only) administrator password. I've tried making the administrator a member of just about every group. I've tried removing the server from the domain, and then re-joining. I've sucessfully created a new domain on this server as a child domain of my original domain - and then removed that child domain. What is causing this?
