Cool, glad to hear that it is working out well for you. As for running it
as a service, you could always try using something like
FireDaemon[www.firedaemon.com] to make GuildFTP run as a service. According
to the FAQ on the website this is how you can set it up to always start in
the system tray.
// From the website
6. How do you launch the server directly into the taskbar?
A. Well, it's tricky. This is how:
- Start the server
- Press ESC key to send it to the taskbar
- Right-click the icon in the tray
- Select Exit / Click YES
As long as you always shut down the server when it's in the taskbar, it
should always launch the next time taskbar'd
Good luck,
John

John,
Thanks a lot!
GuildFTP is doing a great job and I have adopted it as a test.
Already much better than using the FTP Service.
GuildFTP does not come as a service? Should I then place a shortcut to
the .exe in the startup folder?

Well, I don't usually run FTPD on windows servers. The FTP protocol( in
various implementations) has been plagued with security problems. So
when ever possible I try to use SFTP in conjunction with SSH. Clear
text passwords are just bad. With that said, I too have been forced to
use the FTPD service included with IIS. It was not a fun experience.
Any how, I have used a product called GuildFTPD on production windows
servers. Check it out here, http://www.guildftpd.com/ . It is free
software and all that jazz. The admin interface is easy to use. It has
worked great for me in the past. Also, for a great(Free) multithreaded
FTP client for windows you may want to check out LeechFTP
http://stud.fh-heilbronn.de/~jdebis/leechftp/downloads.html . Although
development has frozen it is still my favorite windows FTP client. Hope
that helps.
John

I have been using the FTP service from MS and have come to really
dislike it, especially because it requires so much user, group and
policy setup + setting up IIS.
Is there a good FTP server out there which would allow me to set up FTP
sites in a simple manner?
MMC-Based a plus.
Thanks a lot for your help!
