This is win2k server/Office related - I have now two clients with the same problem and am wondering if anyone else has this issue.
The network is windows 2000 server, client PC's are the latest XP OS patched up. When the user double clicks the .doc, or .xls file and then when they save, it takes several minutes to save. If the client aborts it, the .tmp file is left and when they try to open again, it says it is in use. If the client opens word or excel first, then file/open the doc, all is fine. In a possible similar case, what would cause a user to open an .xls file on the server and get the error saying it is in use when it is not? They then cannot save because they opened in R/O. It appears as thought either the document was aborted during save which would keep the lock open. Oddly, if the user is no longer in the file, why is the lock not being released? Bizarre.
