This wouldnt work. HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT is not what you are thinking it is.
The area of the registry is only used when NO users are logged in (ie at the
CRTL-ALT-DEL screen).

I've never tried this but couldn't you copy the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT in the registry?
