But it is also what is copied when a new user profile is created. We manipulate this key to set defaults for new users (a lot in NT4, not so much in Win2k as we do many things by GPO now). I haven't tried using it to connect printers though.
However, adding things to .DEFAULT won't help in any way if the users have previously logged into this PC.
