Q216393. From the way this article looks the password change interval for Win2k and XP boxes has been changed to 30 days instead of 7. I didn't realize that. -----Original Message----- From: Alexander Kha Do [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 10, 2002 4:06 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: USN updates in ActiveDir? oh sorry, just the password resetting n stuff. -----Original Message----- From: Evans Chris - cevans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 10, 2002 2:01 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: USN updates in ActiveDir? Thanks Chris. Yah, this pretty much is what I am looking for. You know of any white papers or other sources that explicitly remark upon this behavior? -----Original Message----- From: Evans Chris - cevans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 10, 2002 1:45 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: USN updates in ActiveDir? A computer that is a member of a domain has a secure channel password associated with it that it changes every 7 days. So A computer that has a password age of 30+ days should be safe to delete. Since the password is a property of the Computer object, when the password changes the USN is updated for replication purposes. Is that what you were looking for? -----Original Message----- From: Alex Do [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 10, 2002 3:09 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: USN updates in ActiveDir? Here's a boggling question - WHAT CAUSES A USN UPDATE ON A COMPUTER ACCOUNT IN THE DIRECTORY? The reason I ask is that there are several scripts that use the "PasswordAge" property to clean up outdated computer accounts in the directory, but I have no idea what that means. I've noticed that the PasswordAge corresponds exactly to the object's last update date/time in ADUC, or the USN update. What the heck does it? ========================= Alex Do Desktop OS Specialist Information Technology Services Occidental College (323) 259 1428 Fax: (323) 341 4895 1600 Campus Road Los Angeles, CA 90041 ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to %%email.unsub%% ********************************************************************* The information contained in this communication is confidential, is intended only for the use of the recipient named above, and may be legally privileged.
