Steve, we are doing almost the same here with a pban(poor man's backup
network) but using Backup Exec 8.6 Specific network options to backup our
NT4.0/win2k servers (we don't have AD set up yet)....The only fields that
are filled on the pban network card are ip address and subnet mask and
enable netbios overtcp/ip all others are blank.

Subject: MultiHomed Problems - WINS? stuff.....
Hi,
All this WINS Stuff is really interesting.... and maybe whilst fresh in
peoples minds could help me configure my net..?
I have W2K servers , 3 DCs , running Ad in Mixed Mode..., rest are stand
alone...
All servers have 2 Net Cards.
"Primary Net Card" is 10.195.*.*
"Secondary Net Card is 10.196.*.*
The 10.195.*.* are connected directly to 100Mb Switch.....
The 10.196 cards are connected to a Seperate Physical HUB... which is NOT
connected in any way to 10.195...
The primary idea being to have a LAN and what I termed a BAN (Backup Area
Network) - so that I can Backup the servers across a seperate Physical link
, and not load the LAN with Backup Traffic...
Also connected to the 10.196 HUB is a stand alone Server running the Backup
Software - currently ARCSERVE...
My problem is that the BACKUP server can't seem to be a member of the 10.195
W2K Domain...and regularly looses connections with the servers...
For a First question...
Q1) Does this seem like a Viable config?
ie) No Backup traffic can flow across 10.195......(physically or
higher up...)
or
Q2) Am I wasting my time?
I have about 1Terabyte to backup, in different guises, both to tape
,disk etc...., rotational,full,incrementals etc..
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Steve
