1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type "msiexec /unreg" (without the quotation marks), and
 then press ENTER.

3. Click Start, and then click Run.

4. In the Open box, type "msiexec /regserver" (without the quotation marks),
and
 then press ENTER.

I haven't seen that particular error but most of the Installer errors I see
are permissions related. Check the perms and ownership on the
c:\winnt\installer folder. This is usually the culprit.

Good luck!

Subject: Broken Windows Installer

Windows NT 4 SP6a server running IIS 4, ColdFusion, and an Oracle client.
The Windows installer won't install any .msi packages. The usual error is
"1324: The folder path <whatever> contains an invalid character". KB
articles refer to either roaming profiles (which we don't use), or
file/folder/registry permissions. I've checked and double-checked the perms
and admins and SYSTEM have FC everywhere. I generated a verbose log when
installing the msicuu but there's nothing obvious there, although I'm not
really sure what I'm looking for in the msi log.

I've got the latest InstMsiW.exe but it won't install because the service is
already installed and running. Is there a way to uninstall the service so I
can try to fix it? Is there a better way to fix it? Any other clues?
