Paul,

Do you run Cisco in house already? If so the PIX would be nice to have
since, if you will have the opportunity in the future, you can install
Cisco Works. Outside of that NG is very nice and with their SSL/VPN
client the firewall and VPN ability will be sound. I was on 4.1 with
the VPN module for quite sometime and they did not 'support' 4.1 on
WinNT 4.0

It is nice having the latest version on NG. I think it would be good
for you to go that way unless you can scale into the PIX and you already
have Cisco end to end there. The only other thing I would think of is
the NG product is like 4.1 and that is on your resume already. The PIX
experience would definitely benefit you too.

Hope that helps,

Subject: off topic: Checkpoint vs Cisco Pix

We currently use Checkpoint's Firewall-1 v4.1 with Securemote for VPN.
However, Checkpoint has announced that they will end support for 4.1
this June.

Consequently, I need to either upgrade to NG or replace it with another
solution. The other solution is a Cisco Pix 515E.

I saw some surveys comparing the two but those were limited to 4.1 not
the NG solution.

Checkpoint is more in $ but having used it for over 4 years, I am more
comfortable with it.

Can someone help me out by relaying your experience with either NG or
PIX (or, both).

Thanks,
