Hello,

I recently installed ntfs-3g to access my files from both linux and
Windows on a ntfs partition. I am currently testing a few things before
going all the way with this option. Unfortunately, I ran into some problems.

At first, I thought everything would work perfectly because of this nice
sentence in the FAQ: "Why does the driver allow special characters in the
filenames?".

I created a NTFS partition and tried to create a file with a weird name:
" touch "nuxéla lalàlùlîïçè" ". I got this message: "touch: cannot touch
`nuxéla lalàlùlîïçè': Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character".
Now, I thought it might be some wierd thing with touch, or debian (after
reading some posts about that error message). So I tried creating a file
with a simple name and then renaming it to what I wanted, but it didn't
work. I tried creating the file on an ext3 partition, and it worked. I tried
copying the file to my ntfs partition, and it didn't work. Not that it's an
exhaustive test, but I don't quite see where else the problem could be.

Here are the informations I know will probably be handy for getting some
help. I run debian lenny (freshly installed) and installed their ntfs-3g
package, and the debian package website says it's version 1.826. My locale
is en_CA.UTF-8. Last thing I could see is my mount option. The entry for
ntfs-3g is not in my mount man page, and I can't find any page for that. I
have a very simple fstab entry:
/dev/hda5 /mnt/testntfs ntfs-3g defaults 0 0

Just to make sure, I'm doing all those tests as root, so I'm hoping it's
not a user acces issue. And just in case, I got this version of the kernel:
2.6.21-2-686

I'll be glad to provide anyone with more informations if that can help.

   Thanks in advance,
