From my earlier posts to this list I was used to get a copy of my own post within 1..2 minutes. Because I didn't get it, I thought that my post to: ntfs-3g-devel@lists.sourceforge.net was lost, so I did a 2nd try to: ntfs-3g-de...@lists.sf.net from where I too didn't get a copy ... wondering! Thanks for your 2nd answer and sorry for the effort.

Thanks again. From your earlier answers the reason was not clear to me, sorry! Now I hope, it is: *The permissions attached to groups do not have the same meaning on Windows and Linux ... in other words: they are not mappable.* Also my earlier questions referred on older versions of http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-advanced/ownership-and-permissions/, which were kinda contradictory to my understanding. On the other hand, I do not see a problem with this, as on my Windows 7 I do not see any permissions associated with the common group SID xxx-513, so there seems no potential group permission mapping existing, which could fail. Am I wrong? > If the users are in the same group in Windows (this is > the default on Windows 7 and earlier), they must also be > in the same *primary* group in Linux. So for [Windows 8..10 <--> Ubuntu] the correct mapping is: 1000:1000:xxx-1000 1001:1001:xxx-1001 For [Windows 7 <--> other Linux] I have 2 choices: 1000:500:xxx-1000 1001:500:xxx-1001 or 1000::xxx-1000 1001::xxx-1001 :500:xxx-513 Correct? For [Windows 7 <--> Ubuntu]: No valid mapping possible, since I do not change Ubuntu to use a common primary group for users. > This will not be changed. You have to define your > primary groups on Linux the same way as on Windows. I still hesitate to change this, because until now I did not find a reliable answer on Ubuntu documentation, if this would compromise Ubuntu's security policy or something else functionality. I also do not know, why Ubuntu sets the same id to owner and group, different to some other Linux distributions. Do you have some knowledge or assumption on that? Also, If I ever would switch to Windows 8..10, I would have to redo again and I may have a problem with earlier Ubuntu backup data. For this I stuck on: 1000:1000:xxx-1000 1001:1001:xxx-1001 :500:xxx-513 ... and do not associate group windows(500) to any user on Ubuntu, say it is only a indicator to see, that a file was created by Windows. > (Alternative : switch to Windows 8 or Windows 10). There are several reasons, I hesitate to switch to Windows 8 or Windows 10: - Much more resources and memory is needed. - Plenty of older Software might not work. - Last but not least: I do not like Windows 8..10.
