I had once tried TeX2Word from chiriii software (http://www.chikrii.com/) and converted a 20 page double column paper with a lot of math from Word to LaTeX. The conversion was excellent. I had to redo most of the math by hand, but I think that it was more because of the way the math was originally input (array instead of align, etc).
