Hi Troy, You are right, I am responsible for the old http://wiki.contextgarden.net/SlideWithSteps which is just adapted from what I used to use in the old good times of Plain TeX. But I wasn't successful in changing the macros to make them work in mkiv.
I think the approach should completely change in order to use steps with mkiv and lua. Later on I'll send you some thoughts about this.
