additional configuration options

I'm looking to find out how to go about installing/using nmap (I have it
installed), lsof (wors install script ever...) and NePED.  I see that ntop
supports these, but how so?  What added functionality is ntop gaining from
building these in?  How can I include them in the ntop build without fully
installing them on my system?
