tanks for the answer if you told me to go to the doc part its might be because there is a possible solution about my mirroring pb (note i don't want to place my self in border with a hub) Well I didn't find anything in the doc but just the -j parameter which is present in the version 2.1.55 that I use (and i don't know its role). So i'm still looking for some concrete so if someone got anyclue thanks agin.
Is there an order by placing of the ntop's parameters like -C, -u, -p in the command line ?
first msg
I monitor a network node, with ntop 2.1.55 which is connected on the mirrorred port. My problem is that I don't get any more the precious informations of : "usage" "sessions" and "matrix". When i'm an a normal port I get all of the informations. Is there any solutions to get all of the informations when I sniff on a mirrorred port ?
Thanks again for your time,
regards

There's almost 200 lines in docs/FAQ about -j | --border-sniffer-mode
READ IT
Read the discussions in the back traffic.

Hello
Firstly, tanks for the answer if you told me to go to the doc part its might be because there is a possible solution about my mirroring pb (note i don't want to place my self in border with a hub) Well I didn't find anything in the doc but just the -j parameter which is present in the version 2.1.55 that I use (and i don't know its role). So i'm still looking for some concrete so if someone got anyclue thanks agin.
Secondely is there an order by placing of the ntop's parameters like -C, -u, -p in the command line ?
bye

Hi all
we are a small internet service provider ,we are right now using mrtg & ntop along with netflow plugin to monitor the network usage,
now the thing is that we need to monitor the usage & traffic in real time based on the end users ip address,as we are using different ip address pools for cyber cafe ,corporates & home/residential customers now we have no idea how much bandwidth these different category of customers are using actually ? but we definately want to know this as based on that we can plan other things like pricing etc , i have look around to find any such tool which can show this based on the ip address networks as i strongly feel that there must be lot of guys out there who must me doing this ,so kindly point me to some link from where i can get the suitable stuff
regards Prashant

...now, do you want to _control_ bandwidth usage etc, to deliver the services to your paying clients? Or, will _monitoring_ do the job, "good enough", for you?
...I'm setting up control gear for a local 802.11 based isp here, we started with throttling the bandwidth, and use poptop tunnels to wrap in all the traffic, some of the cheaper routers can only manage 256 connections before they stall and reboot.
