I'm not sure what effect the size of your netmask will have. & Burton will tell me/us to read the FAQ/man/&c, hi ;-) But do you have control of the upstream router? This could be preventing some packets from going where you expect. We wanted to firewall & route a sub-subnet with that same mask and our net gurus said NO. We ended up having to NAT which gives us other problems of no interest here.
