Actually, Kenneth has contributed to the FAQ :-)

There's nothing wrong w/ a .240 mask. It's just 4 bits of host, 28 bits of
network ... so you lose the 0 and 1s entries, leaving 14 usable hosts. /28s
are very, very common. Me thinks you need a new net guru or there's
something going on you haven't told us.

Now it's odd to have multiple interfaces on the same subnet, but that's an
internal routing problem. And it's also odd to have this on an upstream
switch (with the same MAC address, especially), but it doesn't violate any
network rules.

Ultimately ntop doesn't care how frames and packets get there - it just sees
Ethernet frames and tcp/ip packets. However they get there.

I'm not sure what effect the size of your netmask will have.
& Burton will tell me/us to read the FAQ/man/&c, hi ;-)

But do you have control of the upstream router?
This could be preventing some packets from going where you expect.
We wanted to firewall & route a sub-subnet with that same mask and our net
gurus said NO. We ended up having to NAT which gives us other problems of no
interest here.
