It is a frozen copy of 1.0.49, and your approach seems reasonable - "why is
1.0.49 behaving differently under Solaris/Sparc than other OSes?"

Thanks. At least I know I'm not alone! :)

I *had* wondered if the data was being stored correctly in the rrd file and
did the same as you, using rrdtool to generate a graph.  There's obviously
something weird going on with the incorporation of rrdtool.  I took a look
at the source in myrrd and it looks like it's derived rrdtool 1.0.49 so I
shall try building rrdtool 1.0.49 and see if that generates a graph
correctly.
