Yes you should be able to monitor traffic to the windows share host.

But... Ntop is running on the same machine that hosts the windows shares.
Shouldn't it be able to monitor outgoing traffic on localhost, idependent of
the network infrastructure?
I just want to monitor traffic to and from the ntop-host=windows-share-host!
