Some monitored ports don't allow ingress traffic - your system won't be able to
communicate with anything else - just receive the monitored traffic.

You should really read the FAQ - it answers many of these basic questions.

Subject: [Ntop] ntop on a mirrored port

Hi All..If I am attaching ntop to a mirrored port, how do I receive an IP
from DHCP or do I manually assign an IP to my card? Some thing of the same
range as that of the port that I am mirroring from?

Also, can I take my ntop console to some other station instaed of just
doing a local monitoring at http://localhost:3000?

I mean, within my lan, sitting on any workstation, can I open a web browser
and do a http://ntop_IP:3000?
