Well, the issue has been fixed, if anyone is interested, I simply moved from
3.3.9 to 3.2(emerged an older version of the package, did not change
anything else) and it simply worked. I guess this is a bug with 3.3.9(or my
particular build of it, maybe some weird USE flags? I'll have to check and
see if I should file a bug report)
