After 40+ hours of work - 30 of which is because I'm a novice in the compiling / linking / Solaris world - I *THINK* it's working!!! It finally passed the configure and gmake process and is running, albeit not seeing much traffic yet.
Anyway, I ended up having to make several tweaks to Makefile, configure, manually move some files around, etc. Also: Tried three different compilers, changed my paths several times to get different version of ld and other utils. Downgraded rrd so I didn't have to deal with pango and another 100 dependencies... Also went back to all utils and compilers from SunFreeWare. Small stuff I got source and then figured out packages were already there - so I got those! Once I verify this is really working and I relieve some stress, I'll try to doc this stuff so it can either be streamlined / fixed by the development team or at least someone has a starting place so they don't beat their head against the wall (table, floor, chairs, window, etc.) like I have been. Someone that knew what they were doing could probably fix this stuff in a couple hours! I wish I could say I learned a lot - but I only learned a little. Anyone that knows of a good reference for beginners on the whole config/make/compile/link process - PLEASE let me know! Maybe something like "GCC for Dummies?" TIA!
