Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

Thursday, April 8, 2010

On April 8, 2010, students who entered Grade 9 during the 2008-2009 school year
will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Students
who began Gr. 9 prior to 2008-09 and have still not completed the test will be
writing it as well, along with students who were unsuccessful last year.

On Thursday, April 8th students writing the test are expected to arrive at
school by 8:30 a.m. to allow for any weather or transit delays. The test will
begin promptly at 9:00 and continue until 11:55 (with a break half way through
the test). At the conclusion of the test, students will be dismissed to home as
there will be a staff meeting in the afternoon. Classes will be cancelled for
the entire day for students in grades 9, 11, and 12 (unless they must write the
test as indicated above).
The OSSLT, administered by Ontario's Education Quality and Accountability
Office (EQAO), is used to determine whether a student has the literacy (reading
and writing) skills required to meet the provincial standard. The successful
completion of this test is a requirement for the Ontario Secondary School
Diploma.
If you have any questions regarding the OSSLT please contact Mary Laszlo, Vice
Principal at: (416) 393-9180.
We wish everyone great success!
