NTCI- TDSB - YWN Partnership Presents: Student Wellness @ NT
Summer Leadership Orientation Camp for Student Wellness Committee The Summer Leadership Orientation Camp is a great way for students to get a feel for whether they want to be involved with the Student Wellness Committee for the upcoming school year and learn leadership and personal development principles that will help them with living a happier life. The orientation camp will run for 4 consecutive days in the afternoon (Monday, August 29 - Thursday, September 1 from 12:30pm - 5pm) and the focus primarily will be on leadership and personal development combined with setting a vision, developing objectives and discussing logistics involved with being a member of the SWC. The Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday will focus on leadership and personal development principles and philosophies. The Thursday will focus on SWC vision, objectives and logistics. The Leadership Orientation Camp will not be a classroom style experience. Due to the fact that it is summer, we want to make sure that this orientation is fun, interactive, and focused on more experiential learning. We will incorporate outdoor activities and make sure we are outside as much as possible to enjoy the summer weather. We hope that most of the students who participate in the Summer Leadership Orientation Camp will go on to take leadership roles in the Student Wellness Committee next year, but we value equally those students who prefer to take a less active role and wish to be members or supporters of our wellness team. The focus for the leadership and personal development portion of the orientation camp will be: o Authenticity - how to discover, live and lead from your authentic self o Compassionate / Heart Centered Leadership o Discovering your passion & purpose o Awareness of Self and Environment (thoughts, words, and actions) o Vulnerability o Emotional Awareness and Intelligence o Overcoming Fear and Limitations o Instinctual / Intuitive Leadership o Living with an Attitude of Gratitude Throughout the duration of the orientation camp the students will discover a lot more about themselves including but not limited to, what makes them happy, what they are passionate about, how to think, speak and act in a positive manner, and how to channel all this new information into being a better leader and advocate for wellness amongst their peers. This new found inspiration and passion will be brought with them into the new school year which will allow for the Student Wellness Committee to start the school year with significant momentum. ? Mentorship, Support and Guidance for Student Wellness Committee members It is important that in the first year of this program the members and leaders of the Student Wellness Committee have access to continual support, guidance and mentorship. The intention is for this program to last more than one year, and the SWC to grow into a large student led committee providing inspiration and encouragement for peers. The focus of the monthly meetings will be on continual development of leadership skills, further understanding of personal development and wellness principles and philosophies, and support with achievement of objectives. As the program progresses, the students will be able to take on more and more responsibility and increase their role in the execution of various elements of the program. The Summer Leadership Orientation Camp is being offered to NT students free of charge this year. Interested students are asked to provide their name and contact information to the NT Guidance Department and a $20 deposit that will be fully refunded upon completion of the camp. Participating students will be also credited with 18 hours of community service! Any further questions? See Ms de Braux in Guidance.
