March is Greek Heritage Month at the Toronto District School Board. It is an occasion to recognize and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Greek Canadians to Canada and an occasion to mark and enjoy the history of Greek culture. The theme of this year's celebration is "Greek Heart & Soul: Philanthropia, Philoxenia, Philotimo." These attributes of Hellenistic culture are recognized around the world as profound qualities of Greeks. Throughout mythological, ancient and modern history, Greek people have demonstrated their humanity and love for humankind (philanthropia), their hospitality (philoxenia) and their keen sense of honour (philotimo). During the month of March, there are several events planned to celebrate the rich heritage of Greeks in the form of songs, dances, special presentations and cultural performances by students and community partners. The opening event will take place on Saturday, March 4, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. the Greek Community Centre of Toronto.
