A Message from the NTCI Parents Mailing List:
_______________________________________________

Dear North Toronto Community,

I hope that this email finds you relaxed, rejuvenated and enthusiastic about
the start of another year at North Toronto.

You should have received an email last evening from the TDSB with updates
concerning mask wearing, daily health screenings for students, the TDSB
Connects App for High School students and the revised start date for classes at
the secondary level. Please review carefully the TDSB Connects app as it will
help students stay connected and organized.

I wanted to offer a bit of information more specific to North Toronto.
Student timetables will be sent out electronically by the board early next week.

Guidance information regarding course request changes is found below:

>From the NT Guidance Office:

Thank you all for your continued patience. We have now completed the
re-scheduling process. Unfortunately it has resulted in quite a lot of
timetabling conflicts, and Guidance will begin reaching out to affected
students. We will continue to work as quickly as possible to accommodate all
timetable requests but please be reminded of the following: from September 8 -
16 the Guidance office has been directed to work on the following, in priority
order: a) new registrations, b) timetable conflict resolution, c) course change
requests (with the goal to complete Quadmester 1 changes prior to September
17). PLEASE NOTE that the new start date for TDSB high schools is September 17.

WE CAN CONTINUE TO WORK ON TIMETABLE CHANGE REQUESTS FOR QUADS 2-4 AFTER
SEPTEMBER 17, SO PLEASE DO NOT PANIC IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD FROM GUIDANCE BEFORE
SCHOOL BEGINS.

The following courses have had to be cancelled due to the loss of staffing:
AWT4M1 (Yearbook), ADA3M1 (Drama), LVLBU1 (Latin Level 1), GLS1O1 (Grade 9
Learning Strategies for students without IEPs), and all ESL sections of Gr 9
Geography and Gr 9 and 10 Science. ESL students have been scheduled
automatically into Geography and Science. All other students with cancelled
courses will be contacted by Guidance to choose alternates.

Many other classes were collapsed, which has resulted in courses being very
full and more timetable conflicts. Guidance will reach out to affected students
as quickly as possible.

The Google Form for requesting timetable changes is now active and posted on
the Google Classroom or available at this link:
https://forms.gle/povzktufJJj41kbK9 Students are encouraged to list multiple
options for replacement courses, in priority order.

In order to maintain the safety of the cohorts once classes begin, students
wishing to have their changes considered for Quadmester 1 must complete the
Google Form process (including parent permission) by 9:00 a.m. Tuesday,
September 15, 2020.

WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE ALL CHANGE REQUESTS - but we always try our
best to help, even in these extraordinary times. Thank you again for your
understanding.

Attention students new to NT and the Toronto District School Board:

Once a student has been registered, the Board requires 24-48 hrs. to activate
the new student account.

Students, please keep trying to log into the TDSB using the following
information, where #### is the last four digits of a student number, DD is date
of birth, and MM is month of birth:

Login: TDSB student number (this will be 9 digits beginning with a 3. Do not
confuse this with your OEN which is a different number entirely).

Password: ####DDMM@Tdsb

Once logged in for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password.

Please carefully and safely record this new password or commit it to memory.

Once the student has a TDSB student email address, they may sign up for the
Guidance Google Classroom. Please use the code for the appropriate grade level:
Grade 9 qwyh4vg
Grade 10 75xj26j
Grade 11 aeanavj
Grade 12 seanvht

Thank you,
NT Guidance Department

We will have a regular day 2 for Friday September 18.

School photos
School photographers will NOT be in the building to photograph staff or
students for identification cards.

Commons/CAF service
The school Commons will be closed until further notice. Lockers will NOT be
available for student use.
Due to the long nature of the morning class, students should be allowed to have
snacks in the classroom. Please ensure that all waste material is placed in
classroom garbage cans.

Volunteers/volunteer coaches
Classroom volunteers and volunteer coaches will not be on site at this time.

SAC Fees
There will be no collection of student fees until further notice.

Covid Expectations
Prior to entering the building, staff and students must complete a Covid
19/Toronto Public Health self-assessment at one of the main entry points of the
school. The self-assessment will also be available via the TDSB Connects app.

School website
Any other information regarding school schedules and important notices will be
posted on the school website for your information. We will reduce hard copy
memos as much as possible.

Some additional information on preparing the building for school opening:
Main Entry Doors
There will be two main entry and exit points in the building for students: the
north and south main entry doors on the front walkway between the school and
the field. The entry doors will have screening stations to encourage healthy
behaviours. Alcohol-based sanitizer to disinfect hands prior to further entry
to the building will be available as well as extra masks, if needed. Classrooms
have been equipped with 1 litre bottles of hand sanitizer.

Students are required to wear non-medical face covers/masks or reusable cloth
masks indoors on school property. Schools will provide cloth masks to
students, if necessary.

Moving Through the Building
Procedures have been created to facilitate traffic flow through the building:
Stairwells AA (4) and CC (3) are ascending stairwells (one-directional).
Stairwells KK (the internal stairwell bordering the courtyard) and BB are
descending (one-directional).
Stairwell DD (the stairwell leading up from P1 is ascending only
(one-directional).
Wide hallways (i.e. the first floor hallway and the gym hallway) can
accommodate two-way flow of traffic and directional cues are provided for
traffic flow. Hallways on the 2nd-4th floors are designated as one directional
and directional cues are provided for traffic flow.

Student breaks
Teachers should consider scheduling in-class wellness breaks.
Where a break includes going outside (i.e. the school courtyard), this should
be coordinated with administration to minimize interactions with other classes
or groups.

Washrooms
Capacity for each washroom has been established by caretaking staff.
Water fountains are not to be used at this time. Water refilling stations are
available in P1 and on the third floor. Students should be encouraged to carry
individual water bottles that are filled at home.

Co-curricular Clubs
Still to be determined. These can be considered as virtual clubs. Students
should NOT be remaining on site after 12:30pm dismissal to participate in
virtual clubs. The expectation is that students leave the building and return
home to be available to participate in their virtual afternoon classes.

Student Dismissal
For the short term, we will stagger the dismissal of students to avoid crowded
hallways.
12:20pm: an announcement will be made to dismiss the basement level, floor 1
and 3.
12:30pm: an announcement will be made to dismiss the second and fourth floors.

More information will follow next week as well as once students have returned
on site to classes.

Best regards,

William Mack
Principal
North Toronto CI
