A Message from the NTCI Parents Mailing List: _______________________________________________
Good afternoon North Toronto families: I'd like to thank you all for your support and patience over the past few months while we navigated our way through distance learning and end-of-year procedures. I hope that you and your families enjoy a restful, healthy summer. We will be back (either on-site or virtually) as of August 24th with more information about a potential September opening. Information about report cards, scheduled for electronic delivery by the board this week, is found below, as well as links to other Ministry/Board information previously released: Final report cards: On June 18, a central communication was sent to all parents/guardians to inform them that Grades 1 to 12 Report Cards will be distributed in digital format via School Messenger. A hard copy can also be provided upon request when school reopens. School Messenger is simply an email platform used by the TDSB and that no action is required on the part of parents/guardians. The central communication is as follows: Due to the current school closures resulting from COVID-19, final report cards will be distributed to TDSB students and parents/guardians in a digital format using School Messenger, an email communication system currently used by schools. As per Ontario Student Records (OSR) guidelines, a signed, printed copy of the report card will be filed in the OSR when schools reopen. The TDSB will take the following steps to deliver a report card for each student in a secure manner: 1. You will receive an email with the report card attached as a password-protected PDF file. * Secondary report cards will be emailed to both parents/guardians and students' TDSB email address between July 3 - 8. 2. The password will be unique for each report card. 3. The password format will be communicated in each email, not the password itself. Please contact the Principal at your child's school with any questions. Final Video Message from Director of Education John Malloy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isPxCBp1jzA&feature=youtu.be Notice of Appointment of Interim Director of Education from TDSB Chair Robin Pilkey: As we come to the end of the 2019/2020 school year, I wanted to provide you with an update with regard to the search for a new Director of Education following John Malloy's retirement from the TDSB this summer. As I indicated in my last message, Trustees established a search committee for an Interim Director of Education last month. I am pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the appointment of Carlene Jackson as the TDSB's Interim Director of Education, effective July 15, 2020. Carlene has been the Associate Director, Business Operations and Service Excellence, with TDSB since August 2017. In this role she has been responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of business including finance, internal audit, legal services, employee services, facilities and capital management, planning and transportation. Carlene is an ideal selection for the appointment as she is currently leading the complex planning process for returning to school in September and she is the executive lead supporting the Board as it begins its budget process leading to the approval of the 2020-21 Board budget. In taking on this role, Ms. Jackson will have the support of our Executive Council and entire senior leadership team. Prior to joining the TDSB, Carlene was the Chief Financial Officer at the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Carlene has over 20 years of experience working in the public sector. In addition to the education sector, Carlene has worked in all three levels of government in senior leadership roles, including positions at the Ontario Ministry of Finance and the federal Treasury Board Secretariat. Carlene is a Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) and also holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Business Administration. Moving forward, the Board will commence a search process for a permanent Director of Education. Carlene will serve in this interim role until a permanent Director is installed. Finally, I would like to once again thank John Malloy for his dedication, tireless work and leadership during his tenure at the TDSB. The TDSB is better for having had him as our Director. On behalf of the Trustees, I would not only like to sincerely wish John all the very best as he moves on from the TDSB, but also congratulate Carlene on her appointment. Together, we will work to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible. Sincerely, Robin Pilkey Chair Ontario prepares for the safe re-opening of schools: file:///C:/Users/040961/Desktop/ontario-prepares-for-the-safe-reopening-of-schools.htm<file:///C:\Users\040961\Desktop\ontario-prepares-for-the-safe-reopening-of-schools.htm> William Mack Principal North Toronto CI _______________________________________________ Please do not reply to this e-mail.
