Main Areas of Concern; a) End user capabilities/experience Users have commented that SQL "Could be a little faster" however, I think that is design related not hardware related-
c) Performance Complaints that cad files (on the lan) take long to open d) Capacity/Scalability currently at 1 tb of data- this is why we are looking to get the at the Synology rs3412 seriresWith Audio Images and new video rendering staff we expect to hit quadruple the storage in 12-24 months Ultra-high performance of 1000+ MB/sec throughput and 100,000+ IOPS1Scale up to 136TB with Synology RX1211/RX1211RP2Dual 10GbE ports support (with PCI-E add-on card)VMware®, Citrix®, Microsoft® Hyper-V® complianceCPU Passive Cooling Technology & System Fan RedundancyExpandable ECC RAM module (up to 6GB)Redundant Power Supply Unit (RS3412RPxs only)Running on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) has the redundant power supplies and NICs' e) Security All controlled by AD (which Synologuy supports) ****f) Business continuity/recovery******* We already have off site backup, however with this little gem, I can do local encypted backups as well so recovery of deleted data wouldnt have to download over the wan (expect of course in an actual disaster ******g) Availability******* Another reason I want to PHYSICAL Hosts so that I can have a Virtual SQL, Citrix, PBX, and Email on standyby, on each host- and use the NAS as iSCSI targets- Will have to confirm with MS Licensing on that h) Audit & compliance Not relevant i) Support & MaintenanceVendor / ME j) Operating Model Not clear on what you mean k) Cross-functional & Other Jean-Paul Natola From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [NTSysADM] NAS or Server-Budget Update Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2013 03:27:45 +0000 There are almost an infinite combination of possible bits of hardware you could purchase. My suggestion is you get some requirements – here are some categories that might assist you in gathering: a) End user capabilities/experience b) Interfaces, integration and interoperability c) Performance d) Capacity/Scalability e) Security f) Business continuity/recovery g) Availability h) Audit & compliance i) Support & Maintenance j) Operating Model k) Cross-functional & Other Work out /what/ you need first, then you can work out /how/ you meet that need.
