Yeh if I carries on ok at 100Mb the pc is under warranty so well get the
motherboard replaced.

I just don't understand how a faulty nic can not affect the LAN but
get through a switch and a router and take down the wan port.

Normally faulty nics packet flood the LAN or similar but the pc can still
access the server and printers etc as can every other pc just the WAN goes
off
