So you downloaded the free Hyper-V 2012 from the MS site, and are controlling it via a Win 7 MMC?

You cannot use the version in Windows 8/2012 to manage previous versions of Hyper-V, like 2008R2. You can use the Win7/2008R2 to manage Hyper-V 2012 .
