I haven't used WSB for restore of VMs, but have used it to restore physical 
boxes and it works great, even if Domain Controllers that are part of a larger 
server environment.   Microsoft DPM also works really good too, both for VMs 
and Physical boxes.   Doing BMR backups is very handy.   The only downside I've 
seen so far with either is that the documentation is poor and error messages, 
when they occur are sketchy at best.   I've also used PHD Virtual for VM 
backups (much like Veeam it using snapshotting too) and it's awesome.
