We use the Dell E6xxx series at work, and they're OK - but I was
wanting much more RAM (16gb) and a faster/better CPU, so I could run
some VMs, which the Precision gave me, and on sale it was a very nice
price. Since OP said "maybe be able to run a CPU-intensive game like
Football Manager.", I think that the Precision line, if had at a good
price, might be a good match.

Of course, I don't play games, so don't know if Football Manager
really requires all that horsepower...
