Yeah, especially when it’s from senior managers who think they are tech-savvy 
and don’t bother to talk to I.T.. One time our CFO negotiated with a vendor to 
replace an MFP with a large color copier/printer/scanner/fax. I found out when 
I got a call telling me that “the printer is here, please hook it up.”. It 
never worked right and we ended up replacing it (that CFO was gone) with 
something that met our specs and requirements.

In which case I would ask if they need to be able to send email as a part of 
the requirement so that you can implement an appropriate solution and move 
forward accordingly.  If they only need to receive email, the forward does that 
while “restricting them to only email access” as requested. :)

 

You can also always go the route of restricting logins to a specific machine 
using the “Log On To” setting in AD and just pick a bogus machine name so that 
it doesn’t exist.  I don’t believe that would stop them from accessing share 
data if they tried to map shares however.

That said, I have to question why they would want to continue providing access 
to email.  If there is some reason this person might legitimately need to 
continue receiving these emails, I’d create a new contact and just forward 
email to whatever external address they choose rather than actively allowing 
them to continue full send/receive functionality.

Our remote sessions are VPN controlled.  Webmail access however is not.   I 
would just remove the user from VPN permissions.

Hi all
 
Got a strange request , a user will be leaving the company and they want him to 
ONLY have access to his exchange account, so no RDP, TS, desktop logons etc..
