Sorry for the delay. Work got in the way of email :). Cable is fine. I tried another and same result. Windows (XP and 10) see the scanner, but not plug-n-play.
Sean, MSPaint was greyed out, probably because no twain driver. I'll see if I can find a generic twain driver that might work. Thanks for the help and ideas.
