I think, and I could be wrong, but I think that if you pass a GIAC exam and stay current, you are entitled to updated books. In your case with GCIH, you'd have to pay for the cert attempt and use the books you've got. I don't have the GCIH yet, but for GIAC the index is everything. EVERYTHING. (Did I mention that the index is everything?)
