NT4 Domain-
I have been planning the removal of one of our BDC's that is our WINS, DHCP,
File and Print server. I've built up another BDC (without WINS and DHCP) and
am about to make the switch.
I've had numerous problems with WINS and DHCP on the old BDC among other
things, and I want to start fresh with the new one.
Here's what I was planning to do.
Delete OLDBDC from Server Manager and shutdown OLDBDC.
Rename and change ip address of NEWBDC to OLDBDC.
Setup WINS, DHCP and Printer shares on NEWBDC(now named OLDBDC).
I just don't know what the effect will be on the clients (all Win9x) because
the WINS and DHCP databases will be started from scratch. I hoped it
wouldn't be that big a deal since when the client's lease expires (4 day
lease), it'll just renew with the same address? Am I on the right track? I
am essentially dumping the WINS and DHCP database and hoping they'll
rebuilt.
Thanks
Scott
