The %SystemRoot%\profiles permissions are set to everyone = full control as one of the
MS Q articles said they should be. One of the servers had everyone set to read and
authenticated users set to full control; I fixed that but it didn't fix the problem.
Each profile directory under that directory has:
user = full control
system = full control
local administrators group = full control
The Q articles I read didn't say anything about permissions on the subdirectories
under profiles, but the above seems okay to me.

Michelle:
How are the permissions set on the two servers... specifically the
%SystemRoot%\profiles directory? I had problems before when the permissions
on that directory were a little **too** restricted; the server couldn't
create profiles for non-admin users.

No, I usually have better luck searching the TechNet CDs. But I suppose I
should give it a try.

NT 4.0, SP6a.
In the %SystemRoot%\Profiles directory on two of my servers, a TON of
directories called system.### and temp.### keep getting created. I assume
it has something to do with the event ID 1000's[1] that I am getting in the
event logs, but I have not been able to find any useful information on
TechNet to get rid of the problem. I have checked the things mentioned in
Q185198 & Q189119.
