Wotcha, We used ArcServe for about 5 years before moving to BE. With Arcserve we found it either installs and works first time, or you will never EVER get it working, even if the CA helpdesk ever rings you back. We had two machines, exact clones of each other, from a reputable supplier, and Arcserve worked on one, and failed to even install properly on the other. Go figure. The standard CA support response is "have you reinstalled the software - no, then go do it" When it worked, it was a charm, but we were growing and couldn't afford the time to troubleshoot 50% of the installs.
With BE, it just worked. This was NT4, Exchange 5.0 and 5.5 Good luck ---------- Ross Wakelin - Independent Information Technology Consultant Tel: +64 (0)3 3433186 Fax: +64 (0)3 3433196 Cell: +64 (0)21 334380 -----Original Message----- From: Jim Holmgren [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, 28 September 2001 05:33 To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: ArcServeIT vs. Backup Exec Daniel, I've used both. I haven't really been pleased with either, but IMHO Veritas Backup Exec is a "little" better if for nothing else than from a support perspective. I believe CA received the "worst support" W2K News Target award this year for good reason. I am currently using BENT 8.6 with Exchange, SQL and Drive Library options. Neither BENT or ArcServeIT seemed 100% reliable , so it was a choice of the lesser of two evils. For example, BENT will fail to connect to my Exchange server about 1 day a week (seemingly random intervals). Ed. w/ T.L.O. that I use for my backups. I'm either going to upgrade to ArcServeIT 2K or maybe switch over to Veritas Backup Exec. I haven't used Backup Exec since they were bought out years ago. I hear some of you slam ArcServeIT, why? I've had pretty good luck with ASIT but if one it better, I have no problem switching. What options, benefits does it have/not have when comparing it to ASIT. I don't want to hear alot of noise or crap like that. If you have experience with either or both please respond, if not, keep your thoughts to yourself. This list has enough crap on it already.
