You can always transfer the role prior to demoting the server, which is the preferred way of doing it, but yes it will transfer. Z

The consensus is to rebuild it on the freed server and forget about Ghost. That was what I was going to do anyway until a contractor suggested Ghosting. I thought I had one more question but the Mastering Windows Server 2003 book answered it. I know this server plays some unique FSMO roles as it was the first DC in the domain. So when I demote it, AD will find another DC to transfer those roles to. ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~
