In and of itself you're right, it's no big deal. Maybe I'm too old school as I remember using Shavlik to string together Windows patches before 3rd party tools were common. If you see my other posts on this thread you'll see it's a cumulative "misses" from these guys as far as AD/Windows-specific knowledge. In 2006 when I started they were unaware there was an R2 version of 2003 Server, until very recently unaware that 2008 R2 was different from 2008. If you're a DA surely you should be up to speed on the OS string you're responsible for managing?
They are plenty technical enough to do the jobs assigned them (one does server hardware/Nagios, another does SAN's, another VMWare ESX, etc). Maybe my problem is I see DA as "special" and they don't see why every SE regardless of job role shouldn't be DA. I've never seen Shavlik used in an enterprise environment (it's Tivoli, Altiris and maybe SCCM), so if a DA comes from an enterprise environment Shavlik's probably only something they might see in passing on a list/community like this one. I'm sure there are plenty of products and vendors that each one of us here have never heard of. Never heard if it..." And these folks are Domain Admins...
