We have 5 Service Desk guys and about 10 Systems Engineer’s and to my knowledge only one other (none of the SD guys) are connected to any IT communities of any sort, be it listmail, forums, newsgroups, etc. Pretty small percentage… Dave From: Ken Schaefer [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, November 04, 2011 9:59 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: [OT] Stats about IT I see very little enterprise architecture and integration involvement in communities. I see more technical line-level engineering and development questions/answers. And, those that do participate in communities tend to do better in their jobs and have a longer IT career. So, I’m pretty sure the demographic that does participate would have value and probably provide better input than the small portion of those that don’t. There’s a certain demographic of the IT industry that seems to participate in communities. Even though the graphic in that article was only July 2011, that’s really a long time in hype cycles. If someone were smart, they’d find a way to automate data accumulation from communities and develop a real world research org. It would be nice to see “what the industry says versus “what’s really going on. Gartner is saying that Cloud has entered the “meaningless hype stage… http://www.infoworld.com/d/cloud-computing/its-official-cloud-computing-now-meaningless-169416 CIOs and CEOs still pay attention to this stuff because at least there is some effort to justify the conclusion. Gartner, right now, is promoting the Cloud like there’s nothing else. 3 years ago it was “outsourcing. Now, companies are bringing resources back in-house because they realized... “Oops that didn’t work. You just have to be very careful with “industry information.
